Into October!

We are now nearly a full month into Kindergarten, and it is amazing how far we have come with our routines and growing as a community!

These pictures are from about a week ago (end of Sept.) - we enjoy having snack with our friends! Sometimes we eat while we are finishing up Writer's Workshop. Other times, we just eat while we chat with our classmates!  :)

During our Play to Learn time, a student got out the alphabet books and started to sort them and order them on her own. Pretty soon others were joining in to help! I love how our afternoon play to learn time is meaningful and promotes thinking and exploration!

This looks like a disaster area, but you would be amazed at all of the teamwork and creativity going on in there! They were working together to build towers, cities, and more! Measurement, communication, and so much more at work!
And, it even got completely cleaned up when the cleanup song came on   ;)

Math workshop is going well and we now have 5 different math choices each day that we independently choose from (they change every week or so). Students also work with me individually or in small groups to get started on their goals!

These games are from a week or two ago, but you can see that students are working in small groups together as well as independently.
Now our games involve some trickier concepts - I am so proud of their growth and progress!

Another example of some of the things that happen during our Play to Learn afternoon time. These boys decided to play with the pattern blocks.

Writer's Workshop!
We are working on drawing and labeling ourselves, as well as showing our story with pictures. We are also beginning to work on how letters and words tell stories, and we write "below the picture."

At this point, it is very developmentally appropriate for your child to have a story that they have written that incorporates random letters, mock letters, or perhaps even squiggles to represent writing. You will be amazed in the spring to look at all of the growth!  :)

Thinking hard, and using our alphabet charts to generate some thoughts and ideas!

You can see that some stories have pictures and then what may look like repetitive letters or markings. Those markings and letters represented a complete story and are exactly appropriate for this stage of Kindergarten - I am loving seeing their work and setting their beginning writing goals with them!

There are so many great things happening in Kindergarten - I look forward to sharing even more with you, and getting our pictures up to the current date!  :)  Thank you for your support and all that you do at home!

My hope is that these pictures will give you a peek into our day, as well as spark some conversation or generate some topics of discussion for you and your child. If you ever have any questions, or if there are more specific parts of our day that you would like to see, let me know and I can try to make it happen!

Looking forward to another great week!
