We have been loving this fall weather! We have been very lucky to have had NO rainy day recesses yet this year! We know they are coming... but for now we have been loving the sunny fall weather!
One of their favorite things at recess is to throw a ton of leaves into the air and chase them :)
During Daily 5 we have been doing just awesome with our independent choices. Some of us choose Read to Self, some of us choose Work on Writing in our journals, and some of us choose Word Work, which can be letter puzzles, exploring magnet letters, name building, letter roll and race activities and more! It is wonderful to see them engaged in authentic learning experiences that help them become stronger readers and writers!
We are getting math workshop in full swing! We have been practicing behaviors and expectations for "Math by Myself" and "Partner Math" during our workshop time. We have been exploring many fun fall themed games, like number matches, pumpkin dice and counting games, counting and clip cards (LOVE those, because pinching clothespins open is so very good for developing muscles in their fingers, which helps with writing!) and also shape play dough mats!
This week some of the biggest excitement was when my mom came to visit (they find is so fascinating that I have a mom - it is too funny!) and she brought us a ton more people for our dollhouse and block area!! We only had a few people that we could use, so we were so excited for more!!
We also had our Friday show and tell! If you need a reminder or another copy of the schedule, just let me know! We love sharing time. It is great for us to practice our listening skills and being a good audience. It is also great for us to practice the difference between a comment and a question. That is a very hard concept for young learners, so for every show and tell we give one comment, and one question.
Also - notice how kind these friends are to each other! One of our friends isn't turned around being rude, they are actually turned around helping a friend tie their shoe :)
October is off to a fantastic start in Kindergarten! Coming up next week we are returning our goldfish and continuing our animal inquiry unit with SNAILS! More to come....
Also, don't forget our Orange Ruler Fundraiser please! This is so important to our school and helps all grade levels with field trips and more! If you have any questions please ask! The fundraiser has been extended through Tuesday, October 21st. The Fun Run will now be on Wednesday, October 29th!
